May 01 2005, Pueblo Motorsports Park MRA Race #1 - Pueblo in the COLD
Ten-80 Racing heads to Pueblo in hopes of racing glory, but we only got snow! Most of the team headed down to Pueblo on Friday in hopes of getting some pre-race track time, unfortunately bad weather keep the track closed all day.
Saturday weather was much improved with the best weather of the day arriving just in time for the Middleweight Endurance race. Jeff and Drew lined up for the race in the 39th and 17th grid positions respectively. Both Drew and Jeff got excellent starts and made steady progress throughout the race. Jeff finished an impressive 8th place while Drew had a strong 6th place finish. Smitty was up next in the Open Endurance race. Ridding his GSXR750 Superbike, Smitty also got a good start and was in 7th position on the first lap. Unfortunately Smitty's bike developed an electrical problem, damn electrons, and he had to retire after a few laps.
Sunday brought COLD temperatures and snow... not a good racing combination! The first practice session of the day was cold and relatively dry, but that didn't last long. By the time the next session arrive it was snowing. The session only lasted a few laps before it was red flagged due to a couple of crashes. Once everyone was back in the pits a meeting was called to determine the fate of the race day. We waited about an hour to see what the weather would do. Another meeting was called to have the membership vote to determine if there would be any racing. The overwhelming majority of racers voted not to race. The weather continued to deteriorate as we loaded up to head home… another race weekend in the books!
Ten-80 Racing will be back in action for the R2SL, www.racing2savelives.org, event at PPIR on May 11-13. Then for the MRA race weekend at PPIR on May 14-15… weather permitting!
